About Us — The People’s Matcha

Hi, I’m Daisy Ortega, and I'm from the Bay Area.

My love for matcha started in 2018, when I was living in China and traveling through Asia. When I came home, matcha wasn’t easy to find and when shops did offer it, it was often clumpy, pale, and drowned in milk. So I began making it at home, and it quickly became my favorite morning ritual: a moment of calm, intention, and connection.

Curious to deepen my understanding, I took a solo trip to Japan to visit Uji, the birthplace of matcha. Experiencing traditional tea ceremonies and tasting true ceremonial-grade matcha shaped everything I know and love about it today.

Growing With the Matcha Community

Over the years, I’ve loved watching matcha become appreciated and embraced by more people. It’s exciting to see it evolve from a niche drink into something you can find at almost every café, with shops raising their standards and offering better-quality matcha. I feel proud to be part of this growing community of people who genuinely love it.

But as matcha has become more popular, it has also become more expensive.
That’s why I created The People’s Matcha—to make high-quality matcha accessible, welcoming, and community-centered.

Kaila Muzones

This journey became even more meaningful when I met Kaila, who is now the co-creator of The People’s Matcha. We bonded instantly over matcha. At the time, most people around me were coffee drinkers, so meeting her felt exciting.

Kaila had already built a community on TikTok and Instagram around matcha, and it felt like stars aligning. What began as shared passion turned into a shared vision. We love exploring cafés, tasting matcha together, and creating experiences that bring this ritual to others.

Our Mission

Together, our goal is to build a community of people who enjoy the morning matcha ritual and feel connected through it. We believe everyone—whether you're trying matcha for the first time or you've been sipping it for years—deserves options that are thoughtfully sourced, high quality, and fairly priced.

We value quality over quantity, accessibility without compromise, and creating a space where matcha feels approachable and intentional.
